I've got to say... I always hated this design. An advertisement needs to grab your attention, and no mark should be easier than a comic book reader finding comic book ads. However, a full color, full-sized comic holds interest where a completely random sampling of tiny b&w cover reproductions highlighting only logos is easily missed. The solid color backgrounds did no favors, either.
