I LOVED Batman Family. I thought it was the most awesome comic book for years. And that cover to the last issue by Mike Kaluta is great, but... I always wondered why the Huntress was obviously drawn by Joe Staton and inserted.
Could be that The Huntress story was a last minute addition.
Legend has it, that sometime between these two ads, DC ALMOST canceled Detective Comics, until someone got the bright idea to merge Batman Family with it.
I loved the dollar-sized Batman Family issues. I wasn't so thrilled that they cancelled it and made Detective Comics dollar-sized, instead. Not that they weren't doing good stories after the switch, but it just never felt right.
